Success happened for me when I made a conscious decision to MAKE it happen. It didn’t just fall into my lap. It wasn’t just luck. It wasn’t a coincidence. I made it happen.

And I’m not talking about working for it (although there were times I worked my ass off). I mean I mentally made the decision to become successful and believed that was how it was going to be. There was no other path for me. My mind was made up (and is still made up).

I was determined and highly motivated (cause if I didn’t succeed I could live the freedom lifestyle I wanted) and most importantly, I truly believed that success was mine…. well before it actually was!

If you don’t believe in your journey, if you don’t believe you will succeed, then you won’t. It’s as simple as that.

Earlier this month I spoke about how to change bad mindset habits into good mindset habits, which is really important. But we need to go even deeper than that if we want to succeed in all areas of our life.

https://www.sportpsych.org says there are 9 mental skills we need in order to succeed. They have based this on successful athletes but it’s also relevant to all areas of life and business.

1. Choose and maintain a positive attitude.
2. Maintain a high level of self-motivation.
3. Set high, realistic goals.
4. Deal effectively with people.
5. Use positive self-talk.
6. Use positive mental imagery.
7. Manage anxiety effectively.
8. Manage their emotions effectively.
9. Maintain concentration.

If you can crush those 9 mental skills then anything is possible for you! You can become that multi-millionaire you follow and envy on Facebook. You can have the perfect relationship with a loving and doting partner. You can live the life of your dreams. You can do absolutely anything.

I am not saying that if you have a perfect mindset but do no work you’ll find success, not at all! You gotta do the work too! But if you worked your ass off day in and day out, day and night, and if you do not have a mindset for success then all those hours you spent working with be wasted!

Success may come to those people sure! But how long do you think they’ll stay at that level, or grow to the next level?

I have a personal example to share with you.

Many years ago I started a new business (one of my many) and it was my baby. I mean, I loved that business. I spent every waking moment (yes, literally!) on that business. Days, nights, weekends… I was working on my baby.

However, I had this voice in my head tell me that I couldn’t do it… it was too big for me, I should only be running small businesses, not one that was going to be a multi million dollar business within 2 years.

Even though I put all that work into it, dedicated that period of my life to that business, it all fell apart. I lost everything. I lost $300,000.00 in assets and cash (home, cars, savings… we were left with the clothes on our back) in the bankruptcy.

I didn’t understand how this happened. I mean, I worked so freaking hard on that business, harder than I have ever worked in my life. I had great staff to help me, I had Michaels love and support, and I had passion coming out the wazoo! So WTF happened?

I happened. My lack of belief happened. My inner gremlins kept telling me I was going to fuck it up somehow and I believed them, and so it was.

So it doesn’t matter how much work you put in, if you do not have a mindset for success then it ain’t gonna happen!

So please, do yourself a HUGE favor, learn from my mistake, and go back up to that list of 9 mental skills and WORK on them just as much as you work on your business and life!!

I don’t want you to go through the hell and utter misery I went through in 2008. It was devastating to see something I loved so much go up in flames… not to mention losing every freaking thing I owned.

So please believe me when I say that mindset is everything! I have seen first hand what can happen when you don’t believe in yourself.

And hey, if you don’t believe it right now then fake it!! TELL yourself you believe it, and keep telling yourself that because thats how the mind works. The more you say it the more you believe it.

So get to work my friend… not work work. Get to work on your mindset!! And show the world what you are made of!!
